Rebooting the Setting

Posted by Bob on January 28, 2013

So, it has been awhile since I last posted on the Severed Genesis website. Ironically, my regular job as a web designer has prevented me from creating any content for this site. On the bright side, I've been working with the setting's artist in continuing to create more creatures and amazing landscapes. In any case, I have to apologize to everyone who has been patiently waiting for me to find the time to work on Severed Genesis.

In between, I've had some very good discussions with fellow game designer Kevin Wicker. In one of our meetings, we decided that the campaign setting would be best served if we initiated a reboot. So over the last couple of weeks, I've developed a new theme for the website, slowly expanding our social media presence and developing a new image for the setting. While we've taken a couple of steps back in recent months to rethink several aspects of the setting, the results should prove to most enjoyable for the roleplayers.

The First Adventure

In addition, we're beginning playtesting for our first adventure based in the world of Alwa. We hope to have the story available for download on our website in the not-so-distant future. Based in the vast plains of Ceretur, this adventure path will take players from 1st level all the way up to 20th. The first release will only cover the first three levels, but it should be a lot of fun. We've included some old time favorites as well as several new creatures. Starting in the trade city of Crosshaven, the adventure path will eventually take adventurers across this vast region of Alwa.

The Gods

We've had an extensive pantheon for quite some time. In fact, when I first starting telling in the Severed Genesis campaign, I had a binder full of well-detailed deities readily available for my players to read over. As the campaign setting started to take shape, I added even more gods.

I had always perceived small groups of gods belonged to informal cliques. It wasn't until just recently that I finally realized that these cliques could add a whole new dimension to the Severed Genesis setting. I'm still putting on the finishing touches, but the gods will be divided into several small pantheons, not unlike the Greek gods. I'll try to expand on this further in a later post.

In Conclusion

Overall, I'm really excited to see this setting completed. It's been a long journey with countless revisions along the way. Of course, I couldn't have done it without the support (and patience) of my roleplaying friends. I promise that there are good things to come!
